Moncton Says AC/DC Hasn't Inked Any Concert Deal

March 26, 2009

According to the Canadaeast News Service, officials with Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, which owns the city's Magnetic Hill concert site, emphatically deny that a deal has been signed to bring AC/DC to the venue this summer. But they have long been candid in saying the Australian rockers are the band they have been chasing to play the hill this summer. The band is currently touring the U.K. promoting its new album, "Black Ice". There was no indication on the official web site that AC/DC had any concerts planned for Canada this summer.

By noon Wednesday, after CTV Halifax reported for the fourth time the show was confirmed, Moncton's Ian Fowler again flatly denied it.

"At this point in time, we have no contract signed with any promoter for any show at the hill this summer," said Fowler, the head of the city's Recreation, Parks, Tourism and Culture Department.

On Tuesday, The Canadian Press erroneously reported that an announcement about AC/DC performing in Moncton was expected to take place Wednesday. The original CTV report cited sources who said the announcement was expected later this week.

Peter Mallette, CTV's Halifax's assistant news director, said the network stands by its report.

He said the station was confident in their source's information, said to be someone in the concert industry, because the same source ultimately proved correct last year in leaking news of the EAGLES concert at Magnetic Hill.

Large contracts, like the ones for annual concerts at the Magnetic Hill site, cannot be cemented without approval of Moncton's council, Fowler said.

"We have not taken any contract to city council for ratification."
